Awbury Arboretum/Francis Cope House

Awbury is one of the area's last remaining examples of an intact Victorian country estate. The Francis Cope House (1860), which serves as the Arboretum's headquarters and visitor center, is a handsome example of a stone Gothic mansion. It was originally built as the summer home for the Copes, the 10th richest family in America at the time. The beautiful grounds, landscaped in the English romantic style with clusters of trees framing picturesque vistas, include 55 acres of meadows, lawns, woodlands, ponds and gardens. A wide array of educational programs, nature lessons and horticultural classes turn the Arboretum into a living learning center for children and adults.
