Historic Rittenhouse Town

A National Historic Landmark District, historic Rittenhouse Town is the site of America's first papermill and the birthplace of David Rittenhouse, the eminent colonial era scientist and first director of the United State Mint. Rittenhouse Town contains the remnants of an early American industrial community centered on papermaking, including seven original buildings spanning the period from the early 18th to the late 19th century. Founded in 1690 by German Mennonites, this once rural village retains its distinctive heritage and moving beauty
