Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion

Built in 1859 by cloth merchant Ebenezer Maxwell, this impressive mansion is the only authentically restored Victorian house museum and garden in Philadelphia. Visitors can step back in time to experience the comforts and and tastes of a rising middle class in an era when central heat, indoor plumbing and running water were novel luxuries. Surrounding streets are lined with homes built between 1850 and 1890 during the nation's suburban housing boom. The Mansion features a beautifully restored interior rich with Rococo and Renaissance Revival furniture, and is graced by two lovely period gardens enclosed by the Mansion's original iron fence.
